RMAN 2004-11-09 - By Hollis, Les
You must make sure that $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_HOME/bin are in your $PATH first. There is a command in linux of rman that does something else (I don't recall what it is at this time). It is located in I believe /usr/sbin that comes first in your $PATH by default.

I use ora9i on suse, united linux. I discovered that I can not use the rman to perform backup. Each time I invoke it, it fails without giving any error. when I invoke the rman command on it's own it does not give me the rman prompt as it should do. I have confirmed that rman is installed. Pls can someone tell me if this something I need to do.
I have got the rman working on my HP-UX servers and Windows server.
thanks
